Manufacturing Capabilities

Precision Manufacturing for High-Cavitation PET Preform Moulds

At SZ-MOLDTECH, PET preform mould manufacturing is built around precision machining, controlled processing and consistent multi-cavity assembly. We manufacture high-cavitation preform moulds from 48 to 144 cavities, covering mould bases, cavity and core components, neck finish components, hot runner interfaces and other critical mould parts.

Our manufacturing process combines CNC machining, EDM, precision grinding, dimensional inspection and controlled assembly to meet the accuracy and repeatability required for high-speed PET preform production.

Precision Machining

Precision Machining for PET Preform Mould Components

The performance of a high-cavitation PET preform mould starts with the accuracy of its individual components. Our machining processes are selected according to component geometry, material and tolerance requirements to achieve repeatable dimensions and reliable component fit.

CNC Machining

CNC machining is used for mould bases, plates and precision mould components requiring controlled dimensions and repeatable geometry.

EDM Processing

EDM is applied to fine features and complex geometries where conventional cutting cannot achieve the required profile or accuracy.

Precision Grinding

Precision grinding is used for critical mating surfaces and functional components where dimensional consistency, flatness and surface finish affect mould assembly.

Dimensional Inspection

Critical dimensions are checked throughout the manufacturing process to control variation before components proceed to the next stage.
Production Process

Controlled Manufacturing Process from Steel to Finished Mould

A PET preform mould consists of numerous precision-machined and assembled components. Our manufacturing process is organized to control accuracy at each critical stage, from material preparation and machining to assembly and trial moulding.

Material Preparation

Mould steel and component materials are prepared according to the approved mould design and processing requirements.
01

Initial machining establishes the basic geometry, reference surfaces and allowances required for subsequent precision processing.
02

Precision Machining

Critical dimensions, interfaces and functional features are machined according to approved drawings and process requirements.
03

EDM and Fine Processing

Fine geometries and features requiring EDM or specialized finishing are processed and subsequently inspected.
04

Precision Grinding

Critical surfaces are ground to achieve the specified dimensional accuracy, flatness and surface condition.
05

Component Inspection

Key dimensions, interfaces and functional surfaces are checked before components proceed to mould assembly.
06

Mould Assembly

Cavity, core, neck finish, hot runner and mould structure components are assembled and fitted according to the mould design.
07

Trial Moulding

The completed PET preform mould is trialed to verify mould operation, preform quality and cavity-to-cavity consistency before delivery.

Critical Components

Precision Control of Critical PET Preform Mould Components

Not every mould dimension has the same functional importance. Our manufacturing process places particular attention on components and interfaces that directly influence preform geometry, mould alignment and production stability.
Cavity, core, neck finish and hot runner components of a PET preform mould
  • 01

    Cavity and Core Components

Cavity and core components define the main geometry of the PET preform. Their dimensions, alignment and surface condition must remain consistent across all cavities.
  • 02

    Neck Finish Components

Neck finish components require precise machining and fitting to maintain consistent thread, neck and sealing dimensions across the complete cavity set.
  • 03

    Mould Interfaces

Locating surfaces and mould interfaces are manufactured and inspected to support accurate positioning between mating mould components.
  • 04

    Hot Runner Interfaces

Hot runner components require accurate positioning and reliable fitting to support stable melt delivery across multiple cavities.
  • 05

    Cooling Structures

Cooling channels are manufactured according to the mould design to support effective heat transfer and stable moulding conditions.

CAVITY RANGE

Manufacturing Capability for 48–144 Cavity PET Preform Moulds

As cavity numbers increase, maintaining consistency between individual cavities becomes increasingly important. Dimensional variation in a single component can affect cavity alignment, preform dimensions and overall mould performance.

SZ-MOLDTECH manufactures 48, 72, 96, 128 and 144 cavity PET preform moulds according to preform design, neck finish, injection machine and required production output.

  • Cavity-to-cavity dimensional consistency
  • Core and cavity alignment
  • Neck finish accuracy
  • Cavity pitch and positioning
  • Mould interface accuracy
  • Hot runner component fit
  • Cooling circuit integrity
  • Repeatable multi-cavity assembly

These controls are essential for high-speed PET preform production, where mould consistency directly affects production stability.

Assembly

Precision Assembly for Multi-Cavity PET Preform Moulds

Machining accuracy alone does not determine the final performance of a high-cavitation mould. Individual components must also be correctly fitted, aligned and assembled.

During assembly, critical components are checked for dimensional compatibility and operating condition before the mould proceeds to trial production.

  •
    Component Fit

Mating components are checked against the required dimensions and interfaces.

  •
    Cavity Alignment

Cavity and core components are positioned to maintain consistent alignment across the mould.

  •
    Moving Components

Ejection and mould-opening mechanisms are checked for correct movement and operation.

  •
    Hot Runner Integration

Hot runner components are installed and checked according to the mould configuration.

  •
    Cooling Circuit Connection

Cooling circuits and connections are checked before trial moulding.

Trial Moulding Before Delivery

VERIFICATION

Trial Moulding Before Delivery

A PET preform mould is not fully validated when machining and assembly are complete. Trial moulding provides an opportunity to evaluate how the complete mould performs under actual injection conditions.

  •

    Preform weight consistency

  •

    Neck finish dimensions

  •

    Preform appearance

  •

    Cavity-to-cavity consistency

  •

    Injection stability

  •

    Cooling performance

  •

    Ejection operation

  •

    Overall mould running condition

The trial process helps identify manufacturing or assembly issues before the mould is shipped to the customer's production facility.

Machine Compatibility

The final mould interface is confirmed against the customer's machine model and technical specifications before manufacturing.

CONSISTENCY

Built for Cavity-to-Cavity Consistency

For high-cavitation PET preform moulds, manufacturing accuracy must be repeatable across the complete cavity set. The relationship between each manufacturing stage is critical:

  •

    Machining Accuracy

    01

  •

    Component Fit

    02

  •

    Cavity Alignment

    03

  •

    Preform Consistency

    04

  •

    Mould Performance

    05

This is why our manufacturing process focuses on component-level control rather than relying only on final mould inspection.

The objective is to maintain consistent dimensions, accurate component fit and stable mould operation across the complete multi-cavity mould.

Manufacturing for High-Speed PET Preform Production

PET preform moulds used in beverage and packaging production operate repeatedly under demanding cycle conditions. Manufacturing therefore needs to account for dimensional accuracy, component fit, thermal management and repeated mechanical movement.

Our manufacturing process addresses these requirements through precision machining, component inspection, multi-cavity assembly and trial moulding.
